Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship Program to Reopen on January 2, 2018

On December 22, 2017, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced that Canadian citizens and permanent residents interested in sponsoring their parents/grandparents to Canada in 2018, will have the opportunity to do so starting January 2, 2018. The ‘Interest to Sponsor’ form, which all sponsors must fill out to notify IRCC of their interest to sponsor their parents/grandparents, will be available for completion as of noon on January 2, 2018, and will remain open until noon on February 1, 2018.

Completing and submitting the ‘Interest to Sponsor’ form is the first step in the parents/grandparents sponsorship process. This is a new process that was introduced in January 2017. Additional questions have been added in the 2018 ‘Interest to Sponsor’ form, which will allow sponsors to self-assess their eligibility. Once the intake process closes in February 2018, IRCC will invite a limited number of sponsors, using random selection, to submit their application for their parents/grandparents sponsorship.
