Biometrics Collection From Within Canada Now Available

Biometrics Collection from Within Canada now Available

In December 2018, Canada started collecting biometrics, which include fingerprints and photographs, of all foreign nationals applying for any temporary or permanent residence application to Canada. The purpose of collecting this information is to support the integrity of the Canadian immigration system, as well as assist with increasing safety and security of Canadians. There were no centres collecting biometrics of foreign nationals from within Canada, and therefore those individuals were either exempt from providing their biometrics or had the timely and financial burden of travelling to another country in order to comply with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada’s (IRCC) biometric request.

As of December 3, 2019, all individuals from within Canada applying for temporary residence, including extensions and renewals, or for permanent residence, will have to provide their biometrics. Individuals will be able to complete their biometrics at any one of the 58 designated Service Canada locations across the country. Applicants can continue to pay the biometrics fee upfront and complete their biometrics upon a request letter from IRCC. All biometric appointments, at any of these locations, can now be booked through an easy to use online booking system.
