Canada aims to Welcome 1 Million Permanent Residents by 2020

On November 1, 2017, the Honourable Ahmed Hussen, the Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), announced that Canada will welcome 1 million permanent residents over the next three-year period. This will be implemented by allowing 310,000 new permanent residents to enter in 2018, 330,000 in 2019, and 340,000 in 2020. These numbers are above the 300,000 new permanent residents entering Canada in 2017. This new plan is considered as the most ambitious plan in recent history and is supposed to offset the aging demographic as well as continue to strengthen our economy as it has in the past.
