Increase In The Age Limit Of A Dependent Child

Increase in the Age Limit of a Dependent Child

Effective October 24, 2017, the age limit of a dependent child has increased to under 22 years of age from under 19 years of age. This increase in the age limit will apply to all new applications submitted to Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and has a positive impact on keeping families together. This change also supports the commitment the Government of Canada has made to family reunification, in addition to their other initiatives such as decreasing processing times for spousal and partner sponsorship applications, and the transparent process of parental and grandparental sponsorship.
