Intended Change In Visa Requirements For Bulgarian And Romanian Citizens

Intended Change in Visa Requirements for Bulgarian and Romanian Citizens

Effective December 1, 2017, the Government of Canada intends to remove all visa requirements for citizens of Bulgaria and Romania to facilitate easier access to Canada. Citizens from each of these countries will still be required to apply for and obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA), instead of a visitor visa, prior to their entry and must still meet the requirements to be admissible to enter Canada.

As of May 1, 2017, citizens of each of these countries also do not require a visitor visa to enter Canada if they had previously held a visitor visa to Canada within the past 10-year period or if they had a valid United States non-immigrant visa. However, if the citizens did not meet the above criteria they were still required to obtain a visitor visa prior to their entry to Canada.
