Ontario Targets The Technology Sector

Ontario Targets the Technology Sector

On July 12, 2019, the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) provided 1,623 Express Entry candidates with a Notification of Interest (NOI) under Ontario’s Express Entry Human Capital Priorities Stream. OINP specifically issued NOIs to candidates who, besides meeting the program criteria and having a minimum Comprehensive Ranking Score (CRS) of 439 points, had work experience in atleast one of the following six National Occupation Classification (NOC) Codes:

  • NOC 0123: Computer and Information Systems Managers
  • NOC 2147: Computer Engineers
  • NOC 2172: Database Analyst and Data Administrators
  • NOC 2173: Software Engineers and Designers
  • NOC 2174: Computer Programmer and Interactive Media Developers
  • NOC 2175: Web Designers and Developers

This was the first Tech Draw that OINP completed and these draws are aimed at recruiting top talent in the technology sector, to Ontario, from around the world. The OINP has engaged with Ontario stakeholders to identify labour shortages, and accordingly target specific occupations and NOCs. Tech Draws are a new OINP opportunity and provide Express Entry candidates with another source of potentially receiving a nomination, which hopefully leads to receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence under the Express Entry Program.
