PM Trudeau is Shutting down the Border to Most Nationals Due to COVID-19

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made an announcement on March 16, 2020, noting significant changes to Canada’s border to help avoid the spread of COVID-19. PM Trudeau emphasized keeping Canada and Canadian’s safe is his number one priority, and all measures to do so will be exercised if, as and when required. Among many of his remarks, the following apply to Canada’s border for now:

  • Canadian citizens, permanent residents, the immediate family members of Canadian citizens, diplomats, air crews and USA citizens are all allowed to enter Canada.
  • Any individual showing any symptoms of COVID-19 will not be allowed to board and will not be allowed to enter Canada.
  • As of March 18, 2020, all international flights will be rerouted to one of these four airports only: Toronto Pearson International Airport, Montreal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport, Vancouver International Airport and Calgary International Airport, with certain exceptions.

Among some of the remarks, PM Trudeau urged Canadians outside of the country to return home as soon as possible and until they still can.
